While it’s common to have that assembly-line-st While there are a lot of talented indie comics creators working in an autobiographical vein, Pekar is in a class of his own.
I’d be intrigued to see the movie not seen the whole thing. As I mentioned, one or two stories might not impress you but each story adds wattage to the bulb so that by the time you reach the end there is a bright light indeed.
I have nothing to add other than to agree with nearly everyone else that this stuff is brilliant. The honesty about unpleasant or sad aspects of the authors personality and experiences end up making it more endearing – even when he seems crude and mean again, assuming they are sincere.
